Size – a smaller purse tends to indicate that a person is well-organized and extremely efficient. On the other hand, a large purse signifies a more flighty personality. Don’t take offense if you see this as an insult, and remember these are just general guidelines. But in general, a woman with a large purse that contains almost everything she owns is not as well organized as someone who has a smaller accessory that only contains what she needs. But on the positive side of things, a large purse also indicates a more open personality and general friendliness. While you might not necessarily have everything in order, you aren’t afraid to share or add interesting people to your life – just as you like to collect things inside your purse.

Style – going with an over-the- shoulder purse tends to be associated with people who are rushed. You need something that you can fling over your shoulder because you might be late for your next appointment. A woman with a smaller purse on the other hand is usually more relaxed because they already have everything in order. A smaller wallet-like purse also indicates a more assertive personality because it’s a style similar to what a man might own. Something that also bucks the trend of femininity would also fall into this category.

Color – the color of your purse will indicate a lot about your personality and overall style. Women who tend to be more reserved pick a traditional color with a lesson glam. Others who have a more boisterous and outgoing personality aren’t afraid to be judged by the color of their purse. They might even choose to stand out from everyone else by picking a color that is totally different. If you see someone with a fuzzy rainbow colored purse, you can bet that woman loves expressing her individuality.

Cost – the price of a purse can often be misleading if you’re trying to judge a woman’s station in life. A rich woman isn’t necessarily going to buy something that’s expensive, and in many cases they find a much more reasonable item to purchase. Sometimes it’s the women who are trying to prove something who choose pricier brands that come with popular names. Cost is really only a factor if you put importance in it yourself. If you think that a purse is nice even though it doesn’t cost over $500, then you won’t judge other women for how much they spend. It’s also interesting to see if a woman tends towards things that are trendy or more traditional. More conservative women restrain their budgets so that they aren’t spending too much on this particular accessory.

What’s Inside – most other people will never get to look inside your purse, so you’re the only one who might be familiar with what you keeping it. But the contents of your purse is a great indicator of your priorities and personality. If all you have are a few trinkets and makeup accessories, then there’s a good chance that you are a matter-of-fact person who doesn’t waste time with luxuries. On the other hand, if your purse is entirely filled with beauty products or creams designed to deal with how to get rid of acne, you could be a woman who is obsessed about beauty and appearance. In general, a woman’s life is encapsulated with the contents of her purse, so if you take the time to spread out everything on a table, you should be able to determine what’s most important to you – whether it’s family photos, your iPhone, makeup, or a list of chores.

Cool huh? I know that it wasn’t until I got home that I realized what I’d done. Somehow my inability to ignore a great looking purse meant that I came home empty handed – and yet I’d still spent a few hundred bucks.

I know that when I sat down and thought about it (afterward), I determined (quite rightly … ) that if I didn’t avoid buying something (i.e. controlled myself when I saw a nice shiny purse!) that wasn’t on my shopping list then I was going to need  a bit more than a couple of discount diamond rings … I was probably going to need a couple of diamond rings given to me for nothing!

Obviously that’s a highly unlikely scenario so I will just have to reign in my expensive addiction. Or maybe I should start looking for designer handbag coupons and deals. I’ve seen them in magazines and on some websites I’ve landed on in the past, and one or two have been pretty attractive. My biggest problem is that I tend to like the new designs, and the deals are usually for end of season stock.

Still, nothing ventured nothing gained and as I’m already kinda left watching my budget in the first place (hence the discount diamond rings) then it stands to reason that spending my money a little wiser is indeed the best way forward. I know that most women have the same leaning towards buying new purses … shoes … clothes, and that no matter what, it’s something that most of us will keep right on doing.

Perhaps if the financial crisis ‘thing’ would right itself and things could get back to normal, then maybe me and others like me can go back to our irresponsible attitude towards buying ‘stuff’ that we know we don’t really need but … like a kid in a candy shop – we just can’t resist!

First, think outside the box. You don’t necessarily have to find an actual handbag to use as a handbag. For example there are cute camera bags or even laptop bags that you can use for a regular handbag. Whatever kinds of bag you can find on sale or on the clearance rack and it fits your style, I say buy it. No one is going to know that your everyday handbag is actually a camera bag unless you tell them and you don’t have to tell anyone.

Another way to save a ton of money on your handbags is to learn how to sew one yourself. If you own a sewing machine try finding a handbag pattern that you like and is functional for you and then find a nice fabric that is fashionable and fits into your wardrobe. You can easily make a nice handbag for less than $10 if you get the fabric on sale. If you don’t have a sewing machine or don’t want to take the time to learn how to sew, then ask some friends or family members if they know how to sew and see if you can pay them a few dollars for them to sew you a purse.

Lastly, you may be surprised at the handbags that you find on sale online as well as in discount stores. A lot of discount stores may have cheaper items but they are still pretty stylish. It never hurts to check out your local discount store or someplace like Target for a nice stylish handbag. A lot of time you can find a bag that is based on more expensive handbags but may be made with cheaper materials. Also check online at places like eBay as well. Just be sure that any bag that is claimed to be a real designer bag is authenticated before you buy it.

You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on a handbag to be stylish and trendy. Instead do some smart shopping or make your own handbag and save yourself a ton of money for other things like shoes.

Having been lucky enough to visit more then one Louis Vuitton store, I have to say that my favorite has been the time I was over in London and I got the chance to visit the one that’s to be found on New Bond Street. Recently, I purchase an Elite Fitness inversion table, and I love it!  How it works is simple:

When I wake up in the morning (and before the kids are awake of course), I hang inverted for 5-10 minutes while I watch the news.  This starts my day off right and loosens me up so I don’t start with any back pain.  Then I load up my big purse and head out for the day!  Then, later in the day before I go to bed I hang for another 5-10 minutes to relieve any stress that has built up on my back throughout the day.  I also hang for a few minutes during the day if I need to (as in, if my purse really wacks me out of place).
